Gravel Rally Driving Course Stage I
This course is where your rally career begins. We cover all aspects of car control, using rear wheel drive, front wheel drive, and four wheel drive turbocharged rally cars.
We begin by allowing you to experience understeer and oversteer over some very slippery gravel surfaces, and gradually increase the slide angle, speed, and amount of under or oversteer. We will get you to feel every part of the car as it slides and moves around beneath you, and will get you to do this repeatedly until it becomes second nature.
We will also cover extreme braking on a variety of surfaces, and get you to really feel the adhesion of the rally tyres to the gravel. Following a very pleasant yet lightweight lunch (full of energy giving food groups), we will then ask you to take to our special stage, which involves driving all of our rally cars through the forest at speed, avoiding all the trees. We will teach you the finite balance required to keep our rally cars moving along the gravel with ease, and will be verbally guiding you all of the way.
We finish off your day in fine style by way of a demonstrating "hot lap", performed by one of our many highly experienced rally drivers.
Gravel Rally Driving Course Stage II
This advanced gravel rally course picks up precisely where stage I ceases, by beginning with a one hour classroom session covering some of the more complex manuveres for the day.
One of the more difficult skills to acquire during this course is the pendulum swing, or "Scandinavian flick". This is done on a wide open cleared area defined by cones, and the aim is to unsettle the rear of the car to neutralise understeer. All of the driving is done in a 4wd turbo Subaru WRX or Mitsubishi Evolution, and features gradual increase of speed. By the time that lunch is served, you will be swinging these cars around like you had been doing it forever! As there are only 4 people on the course, you do get a lot of actual drive time.
Following a light yet very satisfying lunch, we get you started on a long special stage that features lots of navigation which you will gradually become familiar with (driving fast into oblivious, guided by the navigation words of your instructor).
At the day's end, you will once again get to experience a rally driver flat out in the forest, during your "hot lap".
Gravel Rally Driving Course Stage III
This course is the ultimate rally driving course. And the one that you complete just prior to competing in your first event.
We expose you to some really serious special stages, some amazing terrain with huge surface variation, and get you to perform things in our rally cars that would have never believed possible.
During the course we will teach you the basics of left-foot breaking, as well as refining your braking generally to improve car balance.
We will also focus heavily on pacenotes, by teaching you what they are, how they work, and by getting you to actually write your own pacenotes. We will practice this skill many times, culminating in getting you to complete several special stages without uttering a word, relying instead on the carefully read pacenotes from your instuctor.
We exclusively use a 4wd turbo Subaru WRX for this course, which is exactly the same car that you will be driving in the 2009 Repco Rally Challenge.
We complete the day with several "Hot Laps" completed by one of our qualified instructors, by which time you will be as high as a kite!!!
Tarmac Rally Driving Course (For Targa)
We now have an exclusive Tarmac Rally driving course designed for those that want to compete in Targa Tasmania, or want to enhance their skills on a sealed surface to improve their chances of winning the 2009 Repco Rally Challenge.
The course begins with a 1 hour theory session used to discover how modern day rally cars work, and to discover exactly how understeer and oversteer manifest themselves in our front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, and four wheel drive turbo charged rally cars.
We explain the great need for precision with your braking, and the importance of moving weight around in the rally car using the brake pedal.
Following a lovely lunch containing all the appropriate food groups, we let you loose on a tarmac special stage, firmly under the control of our expert instructors. They will guide you through all of the many turns, getting you to do so with precision, accuracy, and eventually, speed.
We get you performing the technique first, which causes the speed to come by default. By the day's end, you will feel fantastic.
We finish your day with a flat out "hot lap" performed by one of our expert instructors.
